The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

The Apple Mountain Playhouse will be performing a play “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” on May 6, 7, 8, 2011 at the Ellijay Auditorium in Ellijay, Georgia. This play is based on a fantasy novel by C.S. Lewis and is part of the Chronicles of Narnia.

Evening showtimes are 7:30 PM and the Sunday matinee is at 3 PM. Tickets range from $8 to $15 per person.  Seniors, students, teachers and all employees of Ellijay, East Ellijay and Gilmer County will receive $ 2.00 off the full price ticket. Call 706-502-4292 for more information.

Picnic by the River

Picnic by the RiverGilmer Arts and Heritage Association (GAHA) is hosting a Picnic by the River on April 30, 2011. This event takes place at the ETC Pavilion on Legion Road in Ellijay, Georgia. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy your meal while listening to the Owl Creek Band. Gates open at 6 PM and the band takes the stage at 7 PM.

Boys and Girls Club April Classes

The Boys and Girls Club of Gilmer County will be offering the following classes in the month of April. These how tos will be held at the Gilmer County Civic Center in Ellijay, Georgia.

April 19, 2011 – Money Smart Class – This class offers ways to save money, the importance of a checking account, ways to keep track of your spending and more. The class is from 9 AM to 12 Noon.

April 26, 2011 – Nutrition How To – This class teaches how to prepare grocery lists, eat nutritious meals on a budget, portion control, and even more. This class is from 9 AM to 12 Noon.

Wine Tasting

Italian Road Bicycle Festival

Bike RideGet ready to ride! Cartecay Bike Shop in Elljay, Georgia is hosting the 2011 Italian Road Bicycle Festival on April 16, 2011 beginning at 9 AM.  There will be many different bike routes to take ranging from 45, 70, and 100 mile rides. North Georgia has some very scenic country back roads so you will really enjoy the scenery as you ride. All routes will be well marked. You may even want to take part in the 3.5 mile escorted Family Fun ride.

The rides will be as follows:
Gianni Bugno – A 45 mile intermediate ride consisting of rolling hills. A 3000 foot climb.
Marco Pantani – A 70 mile advanced/difficult ride. About a 6500 foot climb.
Italian Festival Century – A 100 mile extremely difficult ride. About a 9000 foot climb.

All rides will have supported SAG stops (water and fruit) and Broom Wagon. You can see the route details on cartecaybikes.com.

Come back to downtown Ellijay after your ride to enjoy some live music at the Three Rivers Music Jam in the city parking lot on River Street from 6 PM to 10 PM.
