Fishing in the Great OutdoorsThe 1st Georgia Great Outdoors Festival is coming to Ellijay, Georgia on April 28 and 29, 2012. Outdoor recreations such as hiking, biking, boating, rafting, fishing and hunting are such popular things to do in Ellijay and North Georgia, it makes sense to have a festival dedicated to these activities. 2012 Easter Egg Hunt

Easter EggsChick-fil-A in Ellijay, Georgia is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on March 29, 2012. There will be 2 different hunts, one at 5:30 PM and one at 6:30 PM. There will be prize eggs and craft activities inside the restaurant. Bring the kids down to Chick-fil-A to join in the festivities. Comedy Cabin comes to Ellijay!

Southern Twist Country Cooking has expanded and is opening the Comedy Cabin and events venue in East Ellijay, Georgia. The grand opening is coming up on March 16, 2012 with a dinner and show. A group, The BacTracs, from Blue Ridge, Georgia will be performing as The Beatles and Elvis will be in the house as well. It is shaping up to be a fun, entertaining event.

The entertainment will be a 2 hour event with dinner at 6:30 PM and the show starting at 8 PM. Reservations are required and they are filling up fast so make sure you give them a call at 706-273-1631 to reserve your seats. Tickets are $38 for couples, $20 single and they include both dinner and the show.

St. Petrick’s Day Parade

St. Petrick's DayCelebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Ellijay, Georgia on the square with the St. Petrick’s Day Parade and Street Party on March 17, 2012 from 10 AM to 3 PM. Bring your pets along for the party. Meet at Ellijay City Hall in your best St. Patrick’s Day attire at 10:30 AM and join in the parade. The parade will begin at 11 AM and there will be a pet contest near the stage immediately after the parade. The celebration will also include music, face painting, clowns, crafts with pets, pet vendors, food vendors, not to mention all the downtown stores and restaurants. Bring the whole family out for a day of fun!

Learning for Life Classes

Food and MoneyThe UGA Cooperative Extension in Gilmer County – Ellijay, Georgia is offering two classes, “Money Smarts” and “Nutrition Know How”.

The “Money Smarts” class will teach you how to stretch your food dollars, the importance of having a checking account, how and where you can save money, the importance of paying your bills on time, how to keep track of your spending, and more. This class will be offered for FREE on March 14, 2012 OR April 24, 2012 from 9AM to 12 Noon.

The “Nutrition Know How” Class will teach you how to eat healthy without spending a lot of money, the importance of having a grocery list, what it means to eat healthy foods, the importance of breakfast, portion control to prevent weight gain, and more. This class will be offered for FREE as well on March 21, 2012 OR April 26, 2012 from 9 AM to 12 Noon.

Both classes will be taught by Renee Dotson, a UGA Cooperative Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Agent. They will be held at the Boys and Girls Club located in the Gilmer County Civic Center. Although both classes are free, you must register by calling 706-635-4426 to attend.
