This benefit is being hosted by family and friends of Jamayla “Shay” Nelson on July 21, 2012 at 4 PM and offers a cake auction, live auction, and dinner and dessert will be available. Ms. Nelson is only 27 years old and has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. Chemotheraphy has found to be a fruitless endeavor and she has undergone 2 major surgeries with possibly more to come. All proceeds from this special event will go to help offset medical and other bills while she is recovering from surgery.

You are in for a treat if you come to the 7th Annual Taste of Ellijay in Ellijay, Georgia on May 24, 2012 from 5 PM to 8 PM. There will be food, fun, music and prizes. Restaurants, caterers, and food vendors from all around Gilmer County will be represented there. Samples of different foods range from $1 to $4 each. The fun will take place in downtown Ellijay on the square.

The Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Gilmer Arts and Heritage (GAHA) and Better Hometown to bring Ellijay, Georgia a community event called “First Fridays”. These events will take place on the first Friday of every month May through December from 5 PM to 8 PM. Businesses in downtown Ellijay will be open extended hours, giving patrons a chance to enjoy them during the evening hours. Along with the extended hours will be music, arts and crafts vendors, and childrens’ activities such as face painting, balloons and more. Come on down to the square on Friday, May 4, 2012 to see what it’s all about. You just might have some fun!

Celebrate Life with the 2012 Mardi Gras in the Mountains, a charity gala event. This spectacular event is being presented to you by Georgia Mountains Hospice, Ellijay and Jasper, Georgia Councils of the Knights of Columbus, and the Rotary Club of Jasper on February 18, 2012 from 6:30 PM to 11 PM. Enjoy an evening of fine dining, music, a silent auction, and the coronation of the 2012 King and Queen and Honor Court.
The celebration is being held at the Appalachian campus of the Chattahoochee Technical College in Jasper, Georgia. Tickets are $85 per person.
