2nd Saturday Block Party

Visiting downtown Ellijay on the 2nd Saturday of the month is sure to be a lot of fun as there will be a party going on! The 2nd Saturday Block Party featuring Three Rivers Music Jam is happening on November 13, 2010 from 5 PM to 10 PM. Stores on the square will be open late, food vendors will have plenty of food available and live music will be playing starting at 7 PM. Sounds like the ingredients for a good time! Admission is free so gather your friends and family and come on by to enjoy the evening.

The next party will be happening on December 11, 2010.

Photos with Santa

Photo op with Santa ClausBring your children to Photocentric Studios in East Ellijay, GA on November 12, 2010 from 4 PM to 8 PM and November 13, 2010 from 11 AM to 3 PM to have their pictures taken with Santa Claus. Santa will be seated by a cozy fireplace in the Great Room of a beautifully decorated log cabin. The setting is perfect for the warm comfy Christmas feeling.

The sitting fee is $10 and includes 1 – 4″ x 6″ print. Additional photos will be available in a limited supply for $5 each. Arrangements can be made at the event to purchase additional photos and merchandise. For more information and details, call 706-635-photo.

Chamber Chili Challenge 2010

Chamber Chili ChallengeIf you think you make the best chili or salsa…put it to the test at the Gilmer County Chamber Chili Challenge 2010. The contest is heating up on Main Street in Ellijay on November 13, 2010 from 12 PM to 5 PM. Booth/Tent set up begins at 9 AM.  Food prep time is from 11 AM to 12 Noon. Judging begins at 4 PM and awards will be given at 5:30. You don’t have to compete to come out and have a taste of some good chili.

The awards that will be given are as follows:

  • Best booth design/Team spirit
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and People’s Choice for Chili with beans and without beans
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for Salsa

The Team Registration Fee is $50 per category.

Halloween in the Park

HalloweenGet decked out in your favorite Halloween costume and come on down to Harrison Park on October 30, 2010 for an evening of Halloween fun! The festivities begin at 4 PM and end at 10 PM. There will be games, pumpkin carving, trick or treating and more. Prepare to be judged in the costume contest and make sure to bring your picnic basket and a blanket so you can relax and enjoy a spooky movie called Monster House. Santa Cruz Bikes Demo Day

If you are a biking enthusiast, you won’t want to miss the Santa Cruz Bikes Demo Day on September 5, 2010 from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Woodring Branch trail at Carters Lake. There will be plenty of bikes on hand to try including the Blurs, Superlites, Julianas, and the best 29ER dual suspension on dirt, The TallBoy. Come on out to the event and help support the Ellijay Mountain Bike Club. There will be food and drink available.

Woodring Branch trail is a 3.5 mile singletrack for all riders – beginners, intermediate, and advanced. From Ellijay, Woodring Branch is located approximately 13 miles west  on Highway 282.

Independence Day Celebration in Downtown Ellijay

FireworksStart celebrating your independence a day early on Saturday, July 3, 2010 on the square in downtown Ellijay. The festivities begin at 6 PM with the Independence Day Parade. The evening continues with live music and other activities and ends with a great fireworks display at dark.

Check it Out Reading Challenge 2010 – Hawks and Thrashers

Children reading a book.A great way for children grades Kindergarten through 12th grade to get a free ticket to an Atlanta Hawks and an Atlanta Thrashers 2010-2011 game! All they have to do to earn these great rewards is to read at least 5 books between June 2 and August 20, 2010 and they will receive a Check it Out Reading Challenge bookmark (while supplies last), a free youth ticket to a 2010-2011 regular season Atlanta Hawks game and a free youth ticket to a 2010-2011 regular season Atlanta Thrashers game.
