Apple Pickin’ Jubilee 2014

Apple BasketsAutumn is awesome as the weather starts to cool, the apples are ready to pick and Hillcrest Orchards in Ellijay, Georgia holds their annual event, The Apple Pickin’ Jubilee. The fun begins on September 6, 2014 and will run weekends through October 26. There is so much fun to be had, you’ll want to plan to spend the whole day there. Activities include pig races, milking cows, wagon rides, pony rides, pedal car rides, petting zoo, and so much more. There are several new additions in 2014 like the Adventure area and the Apple Adventure Children’s Museum. Once you are ready to rest, sit back and relax with some fresh food from their farm market and listen to some of the music being performed on stage.

Hillcrest Orchards is open from 9 AM to 6 PM and the general admission is $7. There is an additional fee of $3 for the petting farm. For more information, call  706-273-3838.

U-Pick Apples and Pumpkins

ApplesIt’s apple harvest time in Ellijay, Georgia and starting August 23, 2014 and running weekends through October, 2014 is U-Pick Apples and Pumpkins at the Red Apple Barn. Bring the whole family for an afternoon of fun picking apples, pumpkins, taking a tractor ride through the orchard, playing games and even have a picnic if you choose. The farm store will also have a good selections of fresh goodies.

U-Pick times are 10:30 AM to 5 on Saturdays, and 1 PM to 4 PM on Sundays. Fridays are reserved for group events. Contact 706-635-5898 for more information and to schedule group events.

2013 Light Up Ellijay

Merry ChristmasIt’s that time again to get the town decorated for the Christmas holidays and Ellijay, Georgia will be doing it up right with Light Up Ellijay on November 29, 2013 from 5 PM to 8 PM on the square in downtown Ellijay. Downtown merchants will participate in a window decorating contest so you’ll be able to enjoy the great displays. Dress up in your craziest outfits and hairdos and join in the parade that will begin at 6 PM. The lighting of the Christmas tree will take place after the parade. Get into the spirit of Christmas with music, caroling and dancing. Enjoy the live nativity scene and get your picture with Santa Claus. Even the Grinch will be there for pictures. Stores will have lots of specials and craft vendors will be showing their stuff so bring your Christmas list because you will want to get some shopping done.

Bring the whole family out for an enjoyable time getting lost in the corn maze, sliding down the giant slide, racing pedal cars and more. Hang around after the sun goes down for some eerie activities in the corn maze after dark. Last but not least, roast some marshmallows around the campfire to make some S’mores, Yum!

Christmas Tour of Homes

Christmas decorOn November 24, 2012 you can enjoy the Christmas decorations of four of the oldest homes in Ellijay, Georgia on the Downtown Ellijay Christmas Tour of Homes. These homes include 3 family homes as well as the Tabor House Museum and Civil War Library and will all be decorated as homes were decorated in the late 1800s, early 1900s. There will be an after party at the Tabor House at 6 PM.

The tours will be going on from 11 AM to 4 PM. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at Main Street Antiques, Whistlestop Pottery, Cartecay River Trading Company, Antique Show, Christmas House/Interiors, Gilmer Chamber of Commerce, and Ellijay City Hall. 2012 Light Up Ellijay

Christmas ornamentCome on out to downtown Ellijay, Georgia on November 23, 2012 to kick off the holiday season with Light Up Ellijay 2012. The fun begins at 3 PM. There will be children’s activities, snack vendors, a Christmas scavenger hunt, a parade and, of course, the lighting of the Christmas tree in the square. Stores will be having specials, so you can take advantage of that and get some Christmas shopping done. Enjoy the window decorations as part of the window decorations contest and don’t miss getting your picture taken with Santa!

2012 Apple Pickin’ Jubilee

Hillcrest Orchards in Ellijay, Georgia is starting their annual Apple Pickin’ Jubilee on September 8, 2012 and will continue every weekend through October 28. Bring the family out to enjoy some apple pickin’, nature trails, pig races, pedal tractor racing, a petting zoo, a moonshine museum, and much more. Learn how honey is made with a live honey bee demonstration and even milk a cow.  Don’t forget to stop by Grandma’s Bakery for some tasty treats like fried pies, apple cider doughnuts, apple fritters and homemade ice cream.
