The Gilmer Arts and Heritage Association (GAHA)  is hosting their first Charity Golf Tournament at Whitepath Golf Club in Ellijay, Georgia on October 7, 2011 from 9 AM to 4 PM. Cash and other valuable prizes will be awarded for Low Gross Team, Low Net Team, Longest Drive, and Closest to the Pin.

There is a $100 fee per person or $400 fee for a 4 man team. This includes the green fees, carts, range balls, and lunch.

Join in the Three Rivers 5K Run-Walk or Fun Run on June 18, 2011 to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Gilmer County. The 5K race begins at 8:30 AM and The Fun Run begins at 9:15 AM at The Gilmer County Civic Center in Ellijay, Georgia.

Registration fee for the 5K race is $25 for adults, $20 for students. The registration fee for the Fun Run is $10. For more information, call 706-276-2582.

The Boys and Girls Club offers programs and services that promote a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence to boys and girls who often find themselves without adult supervision or care in the afternoons and evenings.

Get ready to ride! Cartecay Bike Shop in Elljay, Georgia is hosting the 2011 Italian Road Bicycle Festival on April 16, 2011 beginning at 9 AM.  There will be many different bike routes to take ranging from 45, 70, and 100 mile rides. North Georgia has some very scenic country back roads so you will really enjoy the scenery as you ride. All routes will be well marked. You may even want to take part in the 3.5 mile escorted Family Fun ride.

The rides will be as follows:
Gianni Bugno – A 45 mile intermediate ride consisting of rolling hills. A 3000 foot climb.
Marco Pantani – A 70 mile advanced/difficult ride. About a 6500 foot climb.
Italian Festival Century – A 100 mile extremely difficult ride. About a 9000 foot climb.

All rides will have supported SAG stops (water and fruit) and Broom Wagon. You can see the route details on cartecaybikes.com.

Come back to downtown Ellijay after your ride to enjoy some live music at the Three Rivers Music Jam in the city parking lot on River Street from 6 PM to 10 PM.

Register for the Father and Son Breakaway Retreat happening on April 15-17, 2011 at Camp Highland in Ellijay, Georgia. This weekend will give you a chance to spend some quality time together as you have the adventure of a lifetime! The retreat has some structured time scheduled with adventure races and discussion sessions and some unstructured time where you will have the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of the camp including zip lines, rock walls, rope courses, nature trails, and Carters Lake. Father and son will camp together in cabins with twin beds and will have the use of the bathhouse. It is encouraged to bring only one child at a time but there is an option to bring a second child.

Camp Highland made its debut in 1999 with the cooperation of Northpoint Community Church and has day camps, summer camps, and other group events. Counselors are trained to teach biblical principles through age appropriate activities. Their goal is to treat guests to the thrill of a lifetime while exposing them to moments that lead to a deeper walk with Christ.
