Georgia ForestWatch in Ellijay, Georgia is hosting the Wild and Woolly Art, Nature, and Music Festival on May 5, 2012 from 10 AM to 6 PM. This enjoyable day will take place at the North Georgia Community Center in Ellijay.

There will be artists, crafters, and photographers selling their artwork, a native plant sale, storytellers for kids and adults, musical groups, a birds of prey presentation. wine tasting, and so much more.

Listen to rock, pop, jazz, blues, and bluegrass music throughout the day with Bill Pound, Marlin Brackett and his Hillbilly Bruzers, and the Dill Pickle Trio. Enjoy a birds of prey presentation by Monteen McCord of Hawk Talk. Meet Charlie Seabrook as he signs and discusses his new book, “World of the Salt Marsh”. Have a taste of wine being presented by Cartecay Vineyards. Get some tickets for the many raffles being held during the day. Bring the kids by for a couple of stories and some crafts. And make sure to stop by the education table and learn what Georgia ForestWatch is all about. There will be so much going on, it is sure to be a day full of fun and interesting things.

U-Pick Strawberries

It’s strawberry pickin’ time at R & A Orchards in Ellijay, Georgia on May 5 – 6, 2012 from 10 AM to 5 PM. Take a tour of the orchard in a wagon and pick your own strawberries. Don’t fret…if you don’t have any interest in picking your own, you can always visit their market where they have plenty of fresh strawberries already picked as well as other fresh produce such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and vidalia onions. They also have other goodies such as pies, canned goods and maybe even some homemade strawberry ice cream.

First Fridays

The Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Gilmer Arts and Heritage (GAHA) and Better Hometown to bring Ellijay, Georgia a community event called “First Fridays”. These events will take place on the first Friday of every month May through December from 5 PM to 8 PM. Businesses in downtown Ellijay will be open extended hours, giving patrons a chance to enjoy them during the evening hours. Along with the extended hours will be music, arts and crafts vendors, and childrens’ activities such as face painting, balloons and more. Come on down to the square on Friday, May 4, 2012 to see what it’s all about. You just might have some fun!

Greater Tuna

Greater Tuna is a hilariously funny play being performed at the Gilmer Arts and Heritage (GAHA) in Ellijay, Georgia by the North Georgia Acting Company on April 19 – 22, 2012. This performance is about a group of citizens from the small town of Tuna, Texas. Watch as this entire satire on rural life is presented by only two performers. They depict all of the inhabitants of Tuna - the men, women, children, and even the animals.

2012 Italian Road Bike Festival

Cartecay Bike Shop is hosting the 15th annual Italian Road Bike Festival on April 21, 2012 in Ellijay, Georgia. There will be 3 different scenic bike rides through the beautiful countryside of North Georgia. The Gianni Bugno is a 43 mile intermediate ride through rolling hills, about a 3,000 foot climb. Marco Pantani is a 70 mile advanced/difficult ride that is about a 6,500 foot climb. The most difficult ride is the Giro de Ellijay which is a 95 mile ride, 9,500 foot climb. This is an extremely difficult ride and is for advanced riders only. All routes will be clearly marked with supported SAG stops and Broom Wagon.

All rides will begin and end at Dalton State College – Gilmer County Center in downtown Ellijay. The rides all start at 9 AM. Registration fee is $35.00. For more information, call Cartecay Bikes at 706-635-2453.

The 1st Georgia Great Outdoors Festival is coming to Ellijay, Georgia on April 28 and 29, 2012. Comedy Cabin comes to Ellijay!

Southern Twist Country Cooking has expanded and is opening the Comedy Cabin and events venue in East Ellijay, Georgia. The grand opening is coming up on March 16, 2012 with a dinner and show. A group, The BacTracs, from Blue Ridge, Georgia will be performing as The Beatles and Elvis will be in the house as well. It is shaping up to be a fun, entertaining event.

The entertainment will be a 2 hour event with dinner at 6:30 PM and the show starting at 8 PM. Reservations are required and they are filling up fast so make sure you give them a call at 706-273-1631 to reserve your seats. Tickets are $38 for couples, $20 single and they include both dinner and the show.
